Engraving

Genuine engraving is recognized by its distinctly raised, or embossed, top surface and indented, or debossed, back surface.

Engraving utilizes an acid-free, plastic film-coated copper or steel plate with an etched-in design, a smooth counterplate and a special engraving press. The plate is covered with ink, then wiped dry everywhere except for the etched portions. The paper is fed into the press. Where the paper comes into contact with the plate, ink is transferred to the paper’s surface.

Stationery that is engraved represents prestige and elegance. The look-and-feel of engraving communicates attention to detail, permanence and stability and an overall impecable business identity, particularly in this era of emailing and faxing. Engraving inks are acrylic water-based, which create a special soft look and can go through laser printers.

Applications
Genuine engraving projects a distinctive, quality image. It is most commonly used for stationery, invitations and announcements. Engraving is ideal when you want to precisely reproduce fine lines and extremely small type.
